The Portland FC

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL STREET SOCCER PLAYERS

Dozens of players from around British Columbia participated in late April’s Western Canada soccer championship in North Vancouver. The tournament’s final featured a hard fought match between the Kelowna Kodiaks and the Victoria Dreams, with the Dreams taking the game 1-0. Congratulations to everyone who participated this year and thanks to our Northshore sponsors and hosts.

Portland FC is a soccer team of men and women who are homeless, have recently been homeless, or who are at risk for homelessness. Most players were originally recruited from shelters run by the Portland Hotel Society.

Everyone is welcome to play regardless of skill level. Our focus is having a great time, but that includes working to build skills, fitness, teamwork, communication and confidence.

We are proud to be part of the Vancouver Street Soccer League.

Our goals include creating a regular schedule for the league, continuing to organize local Street Soccer tournaments, participating in the annual Street Soccer Canada tournament, sending Vancouver-based players to the Homeless World Cup, and hosting the Street Soccer Canada tournament in Vancouver.

The Portland Hotel Society

The Portland Hotel Society is a non-profit organization that provides permanent “no-eviction” housing for adults in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside facing challenges including addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and poverty. Professional support is tailored to each resident, their specific challenges, and their wishes.
